Naturalist Programs and Nature Trails

Exciting New Programs at Markham Park!

New nature programs and night hikes are now available at Markham Park. All programs are led by a Parks Naturalist and are suitable for all ages. They start at the park office. Participants are urged to wear closed-toe shoes and bring drinking water, insect repellent, and for daytime programs, sunscreen. The fee is $5 per person. For additional information call the Park Naturalist at 954-357-8674.

There are also several nature trails that the public can hike or walk. There is the main nature trail that is located across from the dog park that takes you out to the levee for a view of the Everglades River of Grass where you can see many species of wading birds. Alternatively, there’s also the Lakeside Mile trail that goes through the pine tree forest and along the water’s edge. It is a nice shaded walk where you can find many birds, reptiles, and insects.
